What should I expect from 9th Grade Language Arts this year?
All curriculum will prepare students to excel on the end-of-year testing, to enter high school, and to be lifelong readers, writers, and critical thinkers.
I will teach this curriculum in fun and innovative ways, which will appeal to all types of learners and students of all abilities. Every student can succeed in my class! I will not give up on a student, and I am open to trying a variety of strategies to help students learn and progress.
I will not give meaningless busy-work. I will very rarely give homework. Therefore, every assignment that we do will be ESSENTIAL and will be specifically designed to help students' learning to progress.
Expect lots of great reading of novels, short stories, plays, poetry, informational articles, and historical speeches. We will learn to "read like detectives" by conducting critical analyses of text excerpts.
Expect to do a lot of meaningful writing. Students will write in their class journals at least 5 minutes at the beginning of every class. Other meaningful writing will include argumentative essays, expository (informational) essays, and a little descriptive writing.
Plan to come to class with a good attitude and ready to work hard!
